At the most beginning, when Facebdook is launched to universities in 2004, the membership was limited by the founders. It promised not to share user information unless user approved. But after the privacy changes in Facebook, through the like button will share the user data out to other websites.
According to Diane K. B. (1997) “The Privacy Principles identify three values to govern the way in which personal information is acquired, disclosed and used online: (I) information privacy {an individual's reasonable expectation of privacy regarding access to, and use of his or her personal information should be assured); (2) information integrity (personal information should not be improperly altered or destroyed); and (3) information quality (personal information should be accurate, timely, complete, and relevant to the purposes for which it is provided and used).”
Facebook is a free social networking service to public, their income mostly generates from advertising. They need to maintain the profit which is provided the user information to their advertisers. When the advertisers get the user data, they will analysis and choose their target audience. However, most of the user they don’t know Facebook will leak their personal information to third parties. They don’t have any options to say yes or no. Moreover, we all know that our personal data should be protected seriously in online. Many of online criminal cases were caused by the weak security. Are the facebook having enough security to protect their users?
Are we so used to using technology in our lives but forgot to consider our rights and privacy?
